The Rev. Teresa Hord Owens, General Minister & President of the Christian Church (Disciples Of Christ) will be our guest preacher. An essay/art contest for youth and young adults is being held and a panel of young adults who will reflect on the theme.

Each year, the Capital Area Region honors the civil rights leader at during the MLK holiday weekend. In 2018, our MLK Jr. Day Tribute & Action will be held on Sunday January 14, from 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. at United Christian Parish in Reston, Virginia. (11508 North Shore Dr., Reston, VA 20190). The Rev. Teresa Hord Owens, the newly called and elected General Minister & President of the Christian Church (Disciples Of Christ) will be our guest preacher.
New this year is an essay/art contest for youth and young adults is being held and a panel of "Gen'ers" will reflect on the theme: “Inspired By A Dream: Where Do We Go From Here.”
Youth & young adults 30 & under are invited to participate in our first Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day scholarship contest! We are excited about next year’s Tribute and contest where you can share your views and dreams about the life and legacy of Dr. King. Contest winners will receive $100.00. Chris Lawrence To Moderate MLK Young Adult Panel
Chris Lawrence is the Live Desk Anchor, reporting on breaking news and developing stories during News4 newscasts. He also hosts News4 This Week, a weekly show highlighting news from around the Washington area. Lawrence joined News4 in January 2014.
Lawrence is a veteran journalist who spent ten years working at CNN. In his most recent role as Pentagon Correspondent, he traveled around the world, reporting on crises in countries including Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Israel. His live reports after the earthquake in Haiti earned him a national EMMY Award. He also reported on national stories including the Boston bombing.
Prior to his assignment at The Pentagon, Lawrence was based at CNN’s bureaus in Los Angeles and Chicago. He covered national stories including the BP Oil Spill, California wildfires and the Michael Jackson trial. Lawrence was among the first reporters to be live from New Orleans after the levees broke during Hurricane Katrina; reporting that contributed to a Peabody Award that CNN won for its coverage.
Prior to joining CNN, Lawrence covered local news for WXYZ-TV in Detroit, WTVH-TV in Syracuse and WDBB-TV in Tuscaloosa. His experience includes anchoring, general assignment reporting, and working as a consumer/investigative reporter. He also worked for CBS Newspath, filing national stories for local CBS stations around the country. During this time, he spent four months in Kuwait and Iraq during the U.S. invasion in 2003 and traveled to Rome to cover the sex abuse crisis in the Catholic Church.
Lawrence attended the University of Maryland in college Park and lives with his family in Alexandria, VA.
